Culinary Arts

About This Course

Cooking is a fun and excellent tool for teaching and developing young minds. Because children learn by touching, feeling, smelling, tasting and listening, cooking allows them to utilise all their senses. It also exemplifies the "Play" approach to learning food and nutrition. Our Culinary Arts enrichment provides your child with a hand-on practical experience, developing many essential skills such as:

  • Fine motor skills
  • Language and literacy
  • Social skills
  • Communication
  • Early concepts of Maths and Science

Learning Opportunities

Children can develop independence and confidence in their abilities through hands-on cooking activities. They will also learn valuable social skills through interaction and cooperative play with their peers and teachers.
Cooking and food preparation activities such as kneading, pouring, chopping, juicing and peeling will help strengthen hand-eye coordination and muscle control.
The cooking experience will expand a child’s vocabulary and introduce descriptive language. Children will learn to describe the taste and texture of the food (e.g. sweet, spicy, tangy, crunchy etc.)
Counting and measuring is part and parcel of cooking. We will also introduce numerous measuring tools such as scales, spoons and cups. All these will help to strengthen their foundation in early mathematical concepts.
Cooking is as much an Art as it is Science. It allows them to express and exercise their creativity while making edible art. We also incorporate music as children are exposed to various sounds during their cooking experience.
We will demonstrate basic proper dining etiquette, touch on personal hygiene and safe food handling practices.
Our Culinary Arts experience will allow children to become familiar with healthy eating choices. We will also introduce various ethnic ingredients and cooking resources to support different cultures, as well as helping them open up to new tastes.
