New Year, New Dreams!
New Year, New Dreams!
Kick-start 2021 with these fun activitiesNew year, new me, new opportunities! Our team at Chicky & Olive has put together a list of awesome activities to kick-start the brand new year. Whether your child is at school, at home or outdoors, the following will let them explore new possibilities:
1. Personal Bulletin board
DIY crafts hold a special place in our hearts; they take creativity and personalisation to the next level. Pick a designated wall in the classroom or at home and then use that space to decorate it with photos, stickers, art and more in chronological order. Imagine looking back on this at the end of the year to see a physical timeline of memories put together for the entire year! A perfect keepsake, indeed.
2. Coasters for all Seasons
DIY-ing coasters can be sooo much fun! There’s so many different materials we can use to explore texture and different shapes that we can cut out the coasters to be. Your child can customise them by adding names, colours and little crafty bits to it! It’s a great way to get them to explore beyond their imagination and create something that is useful for the home!
3. 2021 Bucket List

There’s so many things we’ve thought about, heard of and still have yet to experience! Same goes for our kids! As the year is just beginning, let’s put together a list of creative things to do and see so that your child can check them off as the months go by. It would be great to see what your child has accomplished and at the same time, look forward to the many more left to explore!
4. Vitamin D
Time to have some fun in the sun! Turn the sidewalk or pathway outside your house into a masterpiece with designs, colours and so much more using chalk to draw! The ground is your canvas so don’t be afraid to transform it into a castle or a spaceship. Let your child’s imagination run free as they explore the many different possibilities the outdoors has to offer.
5. Alphabet Party
via Giphy
Each time your child learns a new alphabet, you can associate something familiar with that particular alphabet. For example, A for Apple or Airplane, B for Books or Balloon --show them tangible things that they can look at or feel so that they remember the letter when they mentally tag it to an item. Of course, the alphabet song is always a classic!
6. Time Capsules
Back in the day, we’d keep precious items that reminded us of our childhood days in old boxes kept hidden or time capsules buried away. Why not do the same for your child? Find a box or an empty container and store little things, notes, artwork or knick knacks that remind you of an occasion, and a couple of years later, revisit those memories with your child! It’s something heartwarming to look forward to, together.
7. Gold Stars
via Giphy
All these activities sound exciting! The truth is, children deserve praises when they’ve worked hard or attempted something correctly. You can award them DIY certificates, or even golden star stickers on their workbooks to show how well they have done their work and how proud you are of them. Praising children every now and then will help boost their confidence and allow them to be less fearful and more open to exploring new opportunities.
